Nigella sativa or kalonji seeds belong to the family named Ranunculaceae and they are annual flowering plants.  They are found in western Asia, Cyprus and Turkey etc. Point is that kalonji seeds, fennel seeds and celery have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for many decades.
