Teeming devotees continued to have Darshan of Lord Sri Arunachaleswarar on the special holy occasion of Mahasivarathri throughout the night and till early morning! Mahasivarathri is one of the most important festivals celebrated with great devotion and verve at the Lord Arunchaleswarar temple in Thiruvannamalai. ‘Laksha Deepam’ was lit on the ‘Chakkara Thhertha Kulam ‘ (pond) situated right opposite the temple of Lord Sri Arunachaleswarar. On this special occasion of holy Mahasivarathri, a special Musical performance of Nadaswaram recital by more than 100 Nadawaram specialists headed by Pichandi was organised on behalf of the Thiruvannamalai District Girivalam Nadswaram-Davil Music Association for the World Peace lasting till early morning the next day!! Mahasivarathri is celebrated in the Tamil Calendar month of Maasi and is considered to be one of the most sacred occasions in the Hindu Religious Traditions. The script of ‘Sivapuranam’ detailing the various events of Lord Siva, explains that the penance (‘Viradgham’ in Tamil) on this sacred Mahasivarathri Day is performed by Goddess Parvathi Devi on the ‘Pralaya Kalam’ (period of deluge), and in ‘Thretha Yugam’ by Lord Muruga, and in ‘Dwapara Yugam’ by Lord Thonthiappan (Vinayaka or Ganesha) and in the period before ‘Kaliyugam’ by Lord Vishnu! The sacred occasion of Mahasivarathri falling on a Monday is considered very very special! This particular occasion is also known as ‘Loka Sivarathri’. By observing penance (Viradham on this occasion of Mahasivarathri on Monday, the traditional belief is that the devotee observing this penance will reap virtue after virtue (good effect). As per tradition, the devotee must observe fast throughout the day on this occasion and read ‘Sivapuranam’ and chant the ‘Namasivaya’ mantra (slogan) and pray! On this sacred of Mahasivarathri, 4-periods (jamam) poojas will be performed in all the temples dedicated to Lord Siva. The 4-periods (known as jamams) refer to the period from 6.00 PM to 6.00 AM the next day consisting of 12 hours. A jamam consists of a 3-hour gap. During the 4-Jamam poojas performed on the sacred Mahasivarathri day, ‘Archana’ should be performed with leaves of the Panchavilvam tree. The 4-jamam pooja signifies the submission of the 4 human aspects of the mind, brain, decision, and arrogance to the feet of Lord Siva. One should pray to Lord Siva throughout the night and join in the 4-jamam poojas. Those who cannot do this can join at the 4th Jamam pooja when Panchamuga Deepa Archana is performed.

The sacred occasion of Mahasivarathri is traditionally celebrated grandly and devoutly in the Temple of Lord Arunachaleswarar at Thiruvannamalai every year! On this year’s (2022) Mahasivarathri Festival, the temple corridors at Thiruvannamalai temple were opened early morning 3.30 AM and special Abhishekhams and Aaradhana were performed on the deities of Lord Sri Arunachaleswarar and His Consort Goddess Unnamulaiamman. ‘Lakshaarchana’ was performed from early morning 5.00 AM at the main Sanctum Sanctorum of Lord Sri Arunachaleswarar. No hike in Seva ticket prices for common devotees: TTD chief ! Due to the raging waves of the coronavirus pandemic and its variants, devotees were not allowed for the Arjitha Sevai of the Lord Venkateswara over the last 2 years. With the perceptible reduction in the extent/impact of the coronavirus pandemic in recent months, and has decided to allow the devotees for the Arjitha Sevai. In this situation, The Endowment Security Board of Thirumalai Tirupathi Devasthanam Board (TTD) organised an emergency meeting in this regard. A decision was taken in this meeting to increase the prices of Darshan Tickets who brings the recommendation letters ! As such, TTD has now released the details of the price increase of the Darshan tickets:  The ticket for the Suprapadha Sevai has been increased from Rs. 120/- to Rs. 2000/- The tickets for the Atchanai and Thomaalai Sevais, where the devotees can sit inside the temple for 45 minutes and have a good Darshan of Lord Venkateswara, has been increased from Rs. 200 to Rs. 5000. The vote counting for the Urban Local Body Election held for Thiruvannamalai was carried out on Yesterday ( 22nd February). There are 39 wards in Thiruvannamalai city. Out of these, DMK has won 31 wards quite comfortably with large margins. As such, this outstanding victory has enabled to capture the administration of the city.
