Tata 1mg launches comprehensive Cancer Care Platform
A one-stop destination aimed at enhancing access to cancer care for every Indian Tata 1mg, India’s trusted digital health platform, has launched a comprehensive online cancer care platform that aims to be a one-stop destination for people diagnosed with cancer, their family and friends, to access reliable and accurate information curated by a team of experts. This first-of-its-kind, information-led Cancer Care platform can be accessed at 1mg.com/cancer-care. It is designed by an expert editorial team at Tata 1mg under the guidance of oncology experts to provide patients and caregivers with in-depth guidance at various steps of their treatment journey. The platform includes rich and relevant information such as content regarding different types of cancer, prominent oncologists in different cities across India, patient support and access programs, NGOs working in the field of cancer care and statewide financial schemes. India ranks third among nations in terms of highest number of cancer cases. Getting to know that you or a loved one has cancer is one of the toughest and most painful situations to be in. Even before starting to look for a treatment and cure, one tends to get overwhelmed by the lack of control, emotional trauma and enormous complexity in the ecosystem. The platform aims to empower patients and caregivers and help them navigate this difficult journey. Announcing the launch of the platform, Prashant Tandon, Co-Founder and CEO, Tata 1mg, said, “Cancer as a condition is significantly difficult not only for the patient, but also for the entire ecosystem around them. In every case, we find that there is too much chaos and uncertainty. I am very happy to announce the launch of our Cancer Care Platform with a single objective: Making cancer care as seamless and as efficient as it can be. I hope that through this platform, we can enable an easier and much more humane experience for patients and caregivers, and bring transparency, quality and trust to the delivery of cancer care.” The innovative platform is being launched as part of the overall cancer care work that Tata 1mg has been doing for many years in the country to help patients get authentic medicines, quality diagnostic tests, e-consultation with specialists, curated information, and other offerings at affordable prices within the comfort of their homes. Tata 1mg is already working with over 1 lakh cancer patients to provide them with support and access to services, cancer medicines, and several diagnostic tests. Tandon added, “We look forward to further enhancing the platform in the near future. The mission is to support and empower people and families affected by cancer and bridge the gap between cancer and care.” In addition, the company has announced that it is also going to further build a comprehensive cancer care program that will offer holistic cancer care assistance and services such as cancer medicines, advanced diagnostics, chemotherapy tests, second opinions from reputed hospital partners, etc. “One of the biggest myths about cancer is that it is the end of everything”, said Dr Ayush Makkar, practicing surgical oncologist, Punjab Cancer Care & Multispeciality Hospital. “Cancer is very much a ‘treatable disease’, if we get to diagnose it in early stages. Early, prompt and effective treatment are the three critical pillars that will help save lives. The treatment mainly includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the upcoming immunotherapy.” Tata 1mg also launched Cancer Awake-a-thon, a unique, 24-hour nationwide campaign to bridge the awareness gap around cancer. Under the theme of “Real Stories, Real Impact” the nationwide campaign showcased real stories, catered to the misinformation through expert-vetted content, and celebrated the spirit of perseverance and hope of the cancer warriors and ecosystem contributors. Hundreds of cancer survivors, warriors, oncologists, health coaches and ecosystem partners, came forward to share their experiences and encounters with cancer. 1 in 9 people are likely to develop cancer in their lifetime. Key factors leading to cancer are dietary habits, inadequate physical activity, tobacco and alcohol consumption. That said, a large number of cancers are preventable by simple lifestyle measures. When it comes to cancer, a little awareness goes a long way. About Tata 1mg Tata 1mg is India’s trusted Digital Health Platform. “WORLD’S FIRST POSTGRADUATE STUDENT TO COMPLETE MAXIMUM NO. 45 OF FULL MOUTH REHABILITATIONS DURING THE COURSE OF POST GRADUATION” @ SAVEETHA DENTAL COLLEGE, CHENNAI
A postgraduate student from Saveetha Dental College has set a new world record in the field of dentistry. Divij Khullar, a third-year prosthodontics postgraduate student from Chennai, India, achieved the world record under the title of “World’s First Postgraduate Student to Complete Maximum No. 45 of Full Mouth Rehabilitations During the Course of Post-Graduation” by cementing a record breaking 1149 crowns in 45 patients. A full mouth rehabilitation is when a restoration is given to all the teeth in the mouth to enhance the lost aesthetics & function. It’s an elaborate procedure involving an average of 14 appointments & multiple laboratory technicians and thus completion of 45 full mouth rehabilitation cases during the course of post-graduation is a remarkable achievement, especially considering that 90% of postgraduate students in India do not complete even one such case. Even most of the private prosthodontic consultants may not do as many full mouth rehabilitations in their lifetime. The full mouth rehabilitation cases completed by Dr.Khullar included a variety of tooth supported, tooth & tissue supported, full mouth implant supported and tooth & implant supported cases. These complex procedures require a high degree of technical skill and expertise, and the fact that Dr Khullar was able to complete 45 such cases is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication. In a statement, the Director of Academics of Saveetha University, Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy said “We are proud of Divij’s achievement and the recognition it brings to our institution. He is a shining example of the quality of education and training that we offer at Saveetha Dental College. We are committed to providing our students with the best possible dental education and training so that they can make a positive impact in the field of dentistry.” The record-breaking feat was verified by the judiciary of India Book of World Records. The achievement is a testament to the dedication and expertise of Dr. Khullar, who completed the cases under the guidance and supervision of the faculty at Saveetha Dental College. In a statement, the Dean of Saveetha Dental College, Dr.S Aravind Kumar said, “Dr.Khullar’s achievement is a source of pride for the entire Saveetha Dental College community and the Indian Dental Community at large. The record-breaking feat is a reflection of the high standards of dental education and training offered at Saveetha Dental College. The faculty and staff of the college extend their heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Khullar on his outstanding achievement.” Dr.Khullar’s achievement will inspire future generations of dental students to strive for excellence in their field. The India Book of World Records is a testament to the remarkable achievements of individuals across India and serves as a source of inspiration and encouragement for others to follow in their footsteps.

In first trip since appointment, UAE COP 28 President Designate Engages Global South and Energy Industry
CPD Launches first stage of listening tour aimed at engaging with all stakeholders. Addressing Asian Ministers at India Energy Week, pushes for pro-climate, pro-growth agenda for inclusive energy transition that leaves no one behind. Under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance, India has emerged from the Covid pandemic stronger than before Notes Renewable energy growth driven by dynamic economies of Asia, and praises India’s 500 GW clean energy push and green growth strategy With two decades experience in energy diversification, UAE leadership and embrace the energy transition and sustainable economic growth With almost 800 million people without access to electricity, we must eliminate energy poverty, while keeping 1.5 alive COP 28 to be COP of Action and COP for All that moves from deliberation to delivery on mitigation, adaptation, climate finance and loss and damage Emphasizes that to succeed, when the debate around climate change only seems to be getting more divisive, we must act in solidarity and unity Size of challenge matched by size of the opportunity that can deliver biggest economic transformation since first industrial revolution Energy sector must decarbonize rapidly, invest in new energies, triple renewable energy capacity and double hydrogen production. To ensure sustainability and prosperity must not unplug current energy system, before we have built the new one. All segments of society to be mobilized- including governments, private sector, scientists, academics, civil society and youth to achieve transformational progress in this crucial decade for climate action It is in our common interest to have the energy industry working alongside everyone on the solutions that the world needs. Reiterates that the UAE approaches this task with humility, a deep sense of responsibility and a great sense of urgency. [Bengaluru Feb 7] – In his first international visit, since his appointment as President-Designate for COP28 UAE, His Excellency Dr Sultan Al Jaber made the case for a pro-growth, pro-climate agenda to support an inclusive energy transition that leaves no one behind. Speaking at India Energy Week in Bengaluru at the Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable, Dr Al Jaber noted India’s strong recovery from the Covid pandemic and that the world’s fastest growing major economy was dealing with the central question of how to embed sustainable, environmentally friendly growth into its development model. “As India’s economy surges, it is dealing with the fundamental question that the whole world faces. How to adopt policies that are pro-growth and pro- climate at the same time. How to provide for a world that will consume 30 percent more energy by 2050, while protecting our planet. In short, how to hold back emissions, not progress.” The President-Designate made the point that the size of the challenge was matched by the size of the economic opportunity. He noted the significant rise in investment in renewable energy in recent years and India’s drive to add 500 GW of clean energy by 2030, adding that the UAE was keen to partner with India and the world on advancing clean energies. “Last year, despite an ongoing war, fears of recession and a world still recovering from Covid, annual global investment in clean energy exceeded 1 trillion dollars for the first time. And the trajectory is only going up. Most of this new growth will be driven by the dynamic economies of Asia. Here in India, you are aiming for 500GW of clean energy by 2030. This is very ambitious, but also very achievable. And the UAE is ready, willing and able to partner with you. We have spent the last two decades diversifying our energy portfolio. We’ve invested in nuclear, we are investing hydrogen and we are expanding our global renewable energy footprint to at least 100 GW by 2030. And we need everyone on this journey with us, so that together we can triple global renewable energy capacity over the next 7 years.” H.E. Dr Al Jaber reiterated that policies should take into account the fact that too many people, particularly across the global south still have no or very limited access to energy. Their needs must be met as we transition to a new energy system and accelerate progress on all aspects of the climate agenda. “To succeed, when the debate around climate change only seems to be getting more divisive, we must act in solidarity and unity. We must empower the Global South, where almost 800 million people have no electricity, in an inclusive energy transition. We must eliminate energy poverty, while keeping 1.5 alive. And we need to move from talking about goals, to getting the job done. That is why we are calling for COP 28 to be a COP of Action and a COP for All. This is the decade where we must stop deliberating and start delivering across mitigation, adaptation, climate finance and loss and damage. The size of this challenge is immense, but so is the opportunity.” The COP President Designate underlined the complexity of the energy transition as a system-wide rewiring of global economies and noted that despite the impressive growth of wind and solar power, renewable energy by itself would not be sufficient, particularly to transition hard to abate industries. “Without a breakthrough in battery storage, we must invest heavily in carbon capture, nuclear power and the hydrogen value chain. But spending on these fundamental enablers of decarbonization are less than 5 per cent of what is spent on renewables. This must change. And when it comes to change, this also applies to the oil and gas industry. The world still needs hydrocarbons and will need them to bridge from the current energy system to the new one. We cannot unplug the current energy system before we have built the new one. As such, we must minimize their carbon footprint, only invest in the least carbon intensive barrels and continue to reduce their intensity.” He added that he would work across all industries, including the energy industry to accelerate decarbonization of the current energy system and the growth of clean energy alternatives, adding that the energy industry should be leveraged as

Debunking the myths of Covid vaccine and Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS)
Dr Dimpu Edwin Jonathan, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Aster RV Hospital There have been many claims around Covid vaccines linked to the sudden deaths of doctors in Canada and athletes but this it’s not true. COVID vaccines are safe and effective. All vaccines have undergone rigorous testing in clinical trials and have been tested on human volunteers before being certified for use in various countries. Although the covid vaccine is new, the process of vaccine manufacturing (for e.g., using mRNA) has been a well-established technique for many years. The thorough knowledge and advances of which have helped scientists and doctors across the globe to produce a vaccine in such a short time. Some people have side effects after getting their COVID-19 vaccine, while others might have no side effects. In rare cases, people have experienced serious health events after COVID-19 vaccination. Any health problem that happens after vaccination is considered an adverse event. An adverse event can be caused by the vaccine or can be caused by a coincidental event not related to the vaccine, such as an unrelated fever, that happened following vaccination. Ever since the rollout of vaccines, health authorities have been closely monitoring the adverse events using the Vaccine Adverse Reporting System (VAERS). Data analyzed over the past two years has reassured the fact that serious adverse events like Anaphylaxis, Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), Myocarditis/Pericarditis, GBS are very rare and few in million occurrences and for all practical purposes be ignored. Anyone who has been administered vaccination, is under scrutiny for any serious adverse events. So far, globally there has been no convincing data, irrespective of the type of vaccine administered, to implicate COVID vaccines as a cause for sudden deaths which is referred to as sudden cardiac death / Sudden arrhythmic death syndrome(SADS). It is term used to describe unexpected cardiac death in young adults. This occurs most frequently in adults in their mid-30s to mid-40s, and affects men twice as often as it does women. It can also occur in people younger than that, such as teenage athletes who suddenly die while playing a sport. Cause of SADS SADS has existed long before the COVID-19 outbreak, and subsequent vaccines were available. It is usually something that runs in families where you see some kind of an acquired, either electrical problem, or something called a cardiomyopathy, which is a problem with the heart muscle, leading to sudden unexplained death in young individuals. Any condition that puts a strain on the heart or damages heart tissue can increase the risk of sudden death. Some conditions that can lead to sudden cardiac death in young people are: Thickened heart muscle Heart rhythm disorders Blunt chest injury Congenital heart defect If you have somebody in your family, a parent, a sibling, a cousin, or an aunt and uncle who died suddenly, for unexplained reasons, those are the types of populations in which we really ramp up our screening efforts. The reason we also tend to focus on athletes is not so much so because necessarily, they have a higher risk of having [SADS], but because they may have a higher risk of dying from it, if they do have it due to the stress involved.
Doctors & Staff from Sankara Eye Hospital blindfold themselves with blind footballers from Equibeing Foundation for eye cancer awareness
An afternoon of 5 a side football with blind & blindfolded people conducted with support from ‘Surya For Life’ on World Cancer Day In a unique afternoon of football, 4 teams with blind and some blindfolded engaged in the game at Sankara Eye Hospital Bangalore on the eve of World Cancer Day, to showcase how sports & play can help those with vision impairment and their care givers gain confidence & resilience to return to their routine. The event had Muhammed Afsal researcher & member State blind football team in Kerala and Anantalakshmi, Founder, Equibeing participate with Dr Mahesh P Shanmugam, Head Vitreoretina & Ocular Oncology, Sankara Eye Foundation India. An interactive workshop for children who are cancer survivors of the eye was also conducted along with their care givers to empower them with knowledge, skills and confidence so that their children can achieve to 100% of their potential. Dr. Mahesh Shanmugam, Head Vitreoretina & Ocular Oncology Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore, said: “A number of eye cancers if identified early and treated can not only save lives, but help ensure useful vision is retained. At Sankara Eye Hospital, our centre for excellence in ocular oncology has worked on innovation in diagnosis & treatment, and we believe that every child can live to its potential if provided the appropriate environment. We are glad to work with Equibeing Foundation, using football as an awareness tool for eye care.” “Sankara Eye Hospitals has been an organisation that I as a social entrepreneur have been happy to support. Children with vision impairment need support. Over the years, through Surya For Life, we are grateful to our patrons for supporting the terracotta jewellery we make, from whose proceeds we are able to support these awareness activities,” shared Poornima Sankar, Founder Surya for Life. ‘Retinoblastoma primarily found in children can be life threatening if not diagnosed on time. These children also need to be provided emotional support and the skills to live their life to their potential and the first step starts at the eye hospital. With the blindfold football match, we want to encourage Ophthalmologists and Optometrists to become ambassadors in creating awareness on this eye cancer and also enable the blind to live their lives to the full,” said Dr Ananthalakshmi, Founder, Equibeing, In a recent incidence of retinoblastoma at Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore, early detection and timely treatment saved the life of nine-month-old baby Janav (name changed), who comes with a family history of this cancer. The baby’s father, Kumar, (name changed) had lost one eye to this disease in his childhood. The baby’s older brother Pranav (name changed) too had lost one eye to the tumour. With support from the psychologists and the vision rehabilitation team, parents today are looking forward to enrolling her in a play school in the next academic year. With improved technology, Retinoblastoma survival rate has improved but low awareness is still a cause of concern. Hence early detection and treatment is vital in saving the life of children in particular. A “white eye”, or “cat’s eye reflex is often the most common red flag, however any sudden swelling, squinting of the eye etc should not be neglected and must seek medical attention immediately.
